Music For All

Music For All is an annual initiative organised by Trinity College London in Malaysia that celebrates musicians with special needs. We create performance opportunities for musicians with special needs, and provide learning opportunities for music educators who want to support the development of musicians with special needs.

Title: Musical Instrument playing to improve multisensory skills for special needs children

Synopsis: This presentation aims to introduce the benefits of musical instrument learning on the development of  multisensory skills of the children; the discussion of the music class activities that could be planned in order  to promote the improvement of these skills.

What you need to do:

  1. Video your performance – you may video in portrait or landscape view
  2. Upload your video on your Facebook timeline from 1 to 14 June 2025 and set the post to PUBLIC
  3. Make sure your post has your FULL name, title of work and composer / songwriter – Read the Video / Upload Guidelines
  4. Smile at the camera and just perform – you DO NOT need to talk or introduce yourself – just enjoy your playing!
  5. You must put the following hashtags to your post: #MUSICFORALLMALAYSIA2024 #TRINITYMALAYSIA
  6. Tag us (@trinitycollegelondonmalaysia) to your post.

ONLINE SHOWCASE FORUM

Join Trinity’s National Manager, U-Jin Lim, alongside musicians Chong Mei Ling and Chia Cheng Kok, who will be talking about the online performance submission.

Panellists will provide constructive general comments and feedback of these performances during this online event which is live-streamed on our Facebook page.

Working with the Disabled Community for Music Educators – A Taster Workshop

A 2-part workshop and practicum session with Sherrene Teh (View Sherrene Teh’s biog) and Chia Cheng Kok (View Cheng Kok’s biog)

Redefining Music Teaching – Making Music Education Accessible for the Disabled Community – Basic Course

This basic 3-hour online course with Sherrene Teh (View Sherrene Teh’s biog) is designed to equip Music Teachers with the foundational knowledge on teaching music to students with learning disabilities.
The content of this course has been redefined through the years to suit teachers with or without experience teaching students with developmental as well as leaning disabilities.

By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of students with disabilities and how best you can teach and support them in their learning. You will also have the opportunity to discuss real life examples with the trainer.

Redefining Music Teaching – Making Music Education Accessible for the Disabled Community – ADVANCED Tutoring session

This 1-hour tutoring session with Sherrene Teh (View Sherrene Teh’s biog) is designed only for those who have completed the basic course. Attendees have to submit one case-study prior to the session, as part of the practical discussion on lesson planning.
The content of this session includes exploring the various teaching metholodogy for special needs students and to confidently design lesson plans for special needs students.

Hands-on Percussion Making workshop and Drum Circle activity – Creativity meets inclusivity

Facilitated by Chia Cheng Kok (View Cheng Kok’s biog) of Percussion Store

In collaboration with Percussion Store, join this immersive half-day percussion making workshop, specially crafted with a focus on special needs education. Attendees will get the unique opportunity to expand their teaching tool-kit for special needs with:

– Percussion Instrument Creation

Engage in hands-on crafting of percussion instruments – mallets / shakers / cajon / bongo – that will not only equip you with skills to make musical tools but also inspire your creativity in teaching methods. This 3-hour session includes an intro to the tools and materials used and the crafting of the instrument itself.

– Seminar with Sherrene Teh

1-hour interactive discussion and tips for in-lesson usage by Sherrene Teh (View Sherrene Teh’s biog), a music therapist and lecturer. Plus point if you’re already working with students with disabilities!

– Drum Circle Finale

An energising 45-min drum circle session, with Chia Cheng Kok (View Cheng Kok’s biog) where attendees can celebrate their newly crafted instruments. This immersive experience is not only about making music together but also about understanding the power of rhythm and collaboration in an educational context.

THE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR ALL PERFORMERS:

  • Register on our website, complete all the information of your performance and make a payment of RM20 per performance.
  • For all in-person performance, a notification email to confirm the date / time of performance will be sent 1 week after the close of registration.
  • In-person performers – come on the event day, perform and enjoy the activities of the day!
  • Online performers – post your video on the set dates and view our online forum on Monday 30 June!
